Review -- My Soul to Lose (Soul Screamers 0.5) by Rachel Vincent

Title: My Soul to Lose (Soul Screamers 0.5)
Author: Rachel Vincent
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Published on:  July 1st 2009

It was supposed to be a fun day, shopping at the mall with her best friend. Then the panic attack started and Kaylee Cavanaugh finds herself screaming, unable to stop. Her secret fears are exposed and it's the worst day of her life.
Until she wakes up in the psychiatric unit.
She tries to convince everyone she's fine--despite the shadows she sees forming around another patient and the urge to scream which comes burbling up again and again. Everyone thinks she's crazy. Everyone except Lydia, that is. Another patient with some special abilities....
"An eBook exclusive prequel to Rachel Vincent's SOUL SCREAMERS series."

 My Review:

My Soul to Lose is the prequel to the first book in the Soul Screamers series,My Soul To Take. This novella is very captivating and well written that will make you want to pick up the first book in this series.

The novella starts with Kaylee Cavanaugh and her best friend Emma. While they are shopping at the mall,Kaylee suffers with a familiar feeling of anguish and pain accompanied with a terrible urge to scream. She calls this condition of hers as panic attack.Or,is it really a panic attack? When she can't stop screaming,Kaylee is sent to a Mental Hospital.

This was a very promising prequel. It gave me chills while reading it.Although there were only about 60 pages, still the author gave us a taste of what to expect in the first book of the series.I really like Kaylee's character. She is strong and brave.

My Soul to Lose is a great start to a series and I will definitely recommend it.

Review--The Spirit Box by JH Glaze

Title: The Spirit Box
Author: JH Glaze
Publisher: Mostcool Media, Inc
Release Date:August 13th 2011

When Walt Turner's mother died, he inherited her apartment and the antique shop below. After losing his job due to the treachery of a co-worker, The Spirit Box calls to him from the darkness of the shop with an offer of revenge.

Lured by the promise of ultimate power and eternal life by the prisoner inside the box, Walt agrees to help it gather the final spirits it requires to return to human form.

John Hazard is investigating a series of murders and missing persons in this otherwise quiet town. His perceptions of reality are about to be altered in a life changing confrontation that will force him beyond the boundaries of darkness and ancient evil.

It is a spiraling descent into madness, where you may have everything you desire, if only you are willing to sacrifice all that you believe.

When you look into The Spirit Box, be prepared to have more than your breath taken away.

My Review:

The Spirit Box was an eerily exciting read.It had lots of twists and turns. The author created a very tangled and mysterious plot and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

The story started off with the prologue in which the mysterious spirit box was introduced. The author described the making of the spirit box in a very captivating way.Right from the first chapter, the book aroused my interest.

The plot was very interesting and unique. The author's description of the surroundings made me feel like I was in the book with the characters.Although, at times, the description seemed to be over-the-top,yet it did little to distract me from the story.

The characters Walt Turner,John Hazard and even T, were very well developed. They were very believable and realistic. You could almost feel what a character in the book was going through.

At times, this book made me laugh, too. On the other hand the mystery, suspense and action were cleverly woven into the plot and It was one hell of a ride ! I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.I think the author did an amazing job with his debut.

I'll recommend this book to people of ages 16+ as it contains profanity that might not be suited for young readers.

Mini Review: The Infernal Devices Series (Clockwork Angel ,Clockwork Prince) By Cassandra Clare.

Title: Clockwork Angel ( The Infernal Devices#1)
Author: Cassandra Clare.
Publisher:Margaret K. McElderry Books.
Release Date:August 31st, 2010

Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by--and torn between--two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Title: Clockwork Prince.
 Author:Cassandra Clare
Publisher:Margaret K. McElderry Books
Release Date:6th December,2011.

In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.
